Topshop Spring 2012 Collections: 50′s Diner & Spring Equinox (notice the Prada-esque flame socks! SO good!!)
Femininity is a key trend for S/S’12 and nowhere is this epitomised better than with 50’s fashion - as seen on the catwaks of Prada, Louis Vuitton, Jonathan Saunders and Chanel. Get retro charm with vintage inspired pieces that include full skirts, bralets, ankle grazers, corset-style bodices, boxy-fit silk shirts, peplums, midi length prom dresses andwiggle-when-you-walk pencil skirts. Ice-cream shade knits and bomber jackets make for the ideal coverup. Accessorize with oh-so cute pastel socks worn with shoes, glamorous cat’s eye shades and flashes of unexpected neon to bring the 50’s look into the present.
Think a sorbet-sweet palette of aqua, pink, peach, lemon and mint accented against bright-white or stark black. Peek-a-boo cut-outs and bralets show a flirty glimpse of skin whilst beaded embellishments, girly lace, bow details and pretty pleats add interest to the girly-girl look. Novelty graphic prints are a fun way to wear the 50’s trend whilst polka dots and florals offer instant ladylike chic.

How small is this lady’s waist??!
Oasis have a wonderful selection of flirty 50′s inspired fashion this season in their Floral Frocks range with pieces that are classically fifties in print, style and colour. This limited edition collection has an authentic feel and is the result of a collaboration with the vintage fashion site Secret Siren who are dedicated to finding all things vintage and glamorous from across the globe!
My favourite offering of the Floral Frocks is this fun Oasis pineapple print bralet crop top and midi skirt combo. The pineapple crop top has a corset style finish to the front and zips up the back whilst the Oasis pineapple skirt has a fitted waist band with chic pleat detail leading to a 50′s style full skirt, finished perfectly with a fluro coloured belt. They definitely should be worn together for a statement look especially when teamed with these neonKurt Keiger spike heels. Alternatively, the bralet could be worn with skinnies for a daring midriff-baring outfit, or wear the retro skirt with a pastel denim tie-front shirt or a vtg tee, (I’d suggest Hawaiian to continue the tropical vibe) for a more casually kitsch daywear look.
This Oasis full skirted 50′s style sundress with cheerful yellow roses print has a high neckline and a cross over detail to the back. Finished again with a contrast fluro belt to keep the look contemporary. I’m not a fan of yellow with red so I’d go for these covetable Office mint snakeskin heels instead (these would work well with the Oasis pineapple duo too!).

50′s style on the Karen Walker S/S’12 catwalk
- Oasis 50′s Dahlia floral dress with corset style top and yellow fluro skinny belt
- Rare mint pleated skater dress with fitted waist and low back
- Love aqua chiffon midi dress with cut-out back
Lilac is strangely becoming one of my go-to/favourite pastel shades this season – perhaps because I love how it looks against mint (my actual favourite). I adore this cute lilac polka midi dress with tie back and v cutout from Dorothy Perkins, though I think I would prefer it with a shorter skater style skirt as opposed to this midi length.
This Dorothy Perkins 2-in-1 dress with a blush hue top with contrasting collar and a structured pencil skirt creates a classic feminine silhouette. Wear with killer heels to channel your inner 50′s pin-up bombshell!
This look is pretty similar to that seen in the Vuitton S/S’12 collection. The Dahlia Maria blouse has a vintage feel, featuring an oversized pastel blue laser cut collar. Wear with this sweet Sylvia skater skirt with decorative broderie white flowers to complete the look.
