Jonathan Saunders S/S 2012 catwalk: ladylike 50′s style tailoring; midi lengths, floral prints, pastel shades against complimentary metallic tones
Spring has finally sprung and there’s no better way to embrace the new season than with pretty pastels!! The SS12 catwalks saw models walking a sugary sweet-shade-parade of delectable pastel hues – from pale pink grapefruit, cool mint, peach sorbet, baby blue, lavender, pistachio, watermelon and vanilla.

For pastel inspiration, look to designers such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Prada who went for classic style with a retro flair in a melodious mix of ice-cream shades. Stylish details such as applique daisies at Prada, soft frills at Chanel and oversized lace collars and feather-trimmed skirts at Vuitton added extra frosting to the innocent new mood. Models at Ralph Lauren worked the vintage 20′s garçonne look, wearing loose-fitting shirts combined with satin trousers, Richard Nicoll had a subtle iridescence to his lightweight materials whilst Meadham Kirchoff delivered, as always, a quirky and bold take on the pastels trend – a novelty vibe complete with candy floss pastel pink hair!

Perfect your own pastel wardrobe with sugary shades to give you a style high!! Pastels work great on all fabrics, from tough denim to delicate and feminine materials such as silk, chiffon, lace and sheer overlays. Lightweight knits in pastel shades make for the perfect perfect to your summer dress. Mix-and-match textures and prints to keep the look fresh for the season ahead.

Choose the right pastel shades to suit your skin tone. Go head-to-toe in tone-on-tone pretty pastel combinations such as fizzy pink sherbet-coloured jeans with a raspberry sheer blouse; or marshmallow knits with chalky pastel denim. Or wear your pastels with complimentary neutrals such as grey, khaki and taupe as demonstrated by Mulberry and Diane Von Furstenberg. A stylish hint of neon will work to keep the look contemporary.

Denim gets a spring update with candy coloured jeans – moving away from classic blue and into a delightfully palatable palette of sorbet shades for a fresh look. Wear on everything from your   skinny jeans to denim jackets.

Pretty pastels are a fantastic way to update feminine tailoring for spring. Go for surprising combinations such as coral pinks with pistachio greens, worn with colour pop sandals. A pastel blazer is an easy way to wear the trend and would be the perfect cover-up for all manner of different outfits.

Retro style, super versatile sheer chiffon polka print dress with skater skirt The nude hue of this ladylike skater dress would work well with most pastel shades – wear knitted pieces in shades of baby blue, pretty pink or turquoise to keep off the chill until spring finally arrives. A pastel blazer would of course work wonderfully too!

Pastel colour block panels added definition and structure to the pieces whilst pleats gave movement to skirts.
